Parenting Relationship Questionnaire

부모-자녀관계검사는 부모가 자녀와의 관계를 직접 평가하는 검사기구이다. 검사는 2세 부터 18세 사이의 자녀를 둔 부모를 대상으로 하며, 2 세 - 5세 대상과 6세 - 18세 대상 두 가지가 있다. 2세 - 5세 대상은 45 문항으로 이루어져 있으며 다섯가지 영역에서, 6세 - 18세 대상은 71 문항으로 이루어 져 있으며 일곱가지 영역에서 부모-자녀와의 관계를 부모의 관점에서 평가를 하게 된다. (아래 Table의 평가내용 참조바람).  

부모-자녀 애착관계 (Attachment), 부모-자녀 대화기능(Communication), 부모의 자녀 훈육방식(Disciplinary Practices), 부모의 자녀교육 참여도(Involvement), 부모기술에 대한 확신감(Parenting Confidence), 학교에 대한 만족감(Satisfaction with School), 그리고 자녀와의 관계에서 오는 좌절감(Relational Frustration) 정도를 평가한다. 

평가결과는 표준화된 t-score와 백분율 등급(percentile rank)으로 산출하여서 부모와 자녀의 관계상의 Strengths와 Weaknesses를 평가하여 자녀교육에서의 부모의 역할을 생산적인 방향으로 개선하는 중요한 기준으로 사용하게 된다. 검사가 끝나면 하버드 카운슬링센터의 심리치료사와 함께 한시간 동안 검사결과 분석 및 부모-자녀관계에 관한 상담을 하며, 상담에서는 Strengths로 나타나는 관계기능은 더욱 강화하고 Weaknesses는 개선하는 플랜을 마련하게 된다.

Developed by the authors of the BASC-2, the Parenting Relationship Questionnaire (PRQ) is designed to capture a parent's perspective on the parent-child relationship. The PRQ has two forms:
  • Preschool (ages 2-5)
  • Child and adolescent (ages 6-18)
which can be completed in 10-15 minutes by the mother, father or other primary caregiver.

Features of the PRQ
Multiple dimensions that are relevant to the development of strong and healthy parent-child relationships: 
  1. Attachment: The affective, cognitive, and behavioral relationship between a parent and child that results in feelings of closeness, empathy, and understanding on the part of parent for the child. 
  2. Communication: The qualify of information exchanged between the parent and child and the parent's listening skills that promote a trusting relationship. 
  3. Discipline Practices: The tendency of a parent to consistently apply consequences or punishment in response to a child's misbehavior, along with a corresponding belief that rule establishment and adherence to rules is desirable. 
  4. Involvement: The extent to which the parent and child participate together in a variety of common activities, along with the parent's knowledge of the child's activities.
  5. Parenting Confidence: The comfort, control, and confidence of the parent when actively involved in the parenting process and when making parenting decisions. 
  6. Satisfaction With School: The parent's belief that the school is doing a good job of meeting the child's educational and emotional needs. 
  7. Relational Frustration: The parent's level of stress or distress in relating to and controlling the behavior and affect of the child, along with the tendency to be overreactive and frustrated in common parenting situations.
Uses of the PRQ
The PRQ was designed to provide information that is useful across a variety of settings and applications, including:
  • School and psychological evaluations as a complementary tool to other assessments to determine an appropriate intervention plan based on parental involvement.
  • Clinical and pediatric evaluations where parent involvement is key to an effective intervention plan.
  • Family counseling evaluations to assess different parenting relationships, beliefs, and practices among parents or other caregivers.
  • Intervention and treatment programs where parents are involved in the therapy process.
